Effect of Cognitive-behavioral Training Combined with Motivational Interviewing on Treatment Adherence and Hemoglobin A1c in Patients with Diabetes and Depressive Symptoms

Background: Depression associated with diabetes increases the possibility of non-adherence to care and treatment programs. The use psychological approaches can improve patients’ self-management ability. Objectives: This study aimed examine effect cognitive-behavioral training combined motivational interviewing on adherence hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) in patients depressive symptoms. Methods: randomized clinical trial was performed two groups 45 (n = 90) type 2 depression a clinic affiliated teaching hospital Iran 2021. participants were selected using convenience sampling randomly divided into intervention groups. group attended eight face-to-face sessions three times week, only four week. Twelve weeks after intervention, personal information HbA1c levels reported by laboratory collected an form. Other data Morisky Medication Adherence Scale. analyzed SPSS software (version 22) paired samples t-test, independent chi-square test, analysis covariance (ANCOVA). Results: results ANCOVA showed that mean score medication receiving (5.54 ± 1.05) significantly higher than (4.87 1.01) (P 0.002).
